Frequently Asked Questions

What can you do?

I have experience working on almost every category of clothing and type of alteration (taking in, hemming, letting out, patching, constructing, upcycling, mending etc.). If you have specific questions about your project, I’m happy to discuss them with you during your consultation.

I also enjoy quilting, crocheting, knitting, carpentry and embroidery and have taken custom orders on occasion.

What are your tailoring prices?

Prices vary based on time and complexity of the project. For example, hemming a pair of standard cotton jeans will be far less expensive than, say, a multi-layered silky bridesmaid dress. To give a general idea of pricing, please see Current Rates.

Who is “Famous Lou?”

The short answer is me! Famous Lou was my childhood nickname coined by my dad, despite not having a name that could remotely be boiled down to Lou. Despite the ridiculousness, it stuck.

Can you do measurements?

Yes, I ‘m happy to take whatever measurements you may need for things like custom suits and dresses, though they are also very convenient to have whenever you are online shopping. Sizing between companies is unfortunately never streamlined, so being able to compare the sizing chart to your measurements will get you the best fit possible.

What is conscious curation?

Conscious curation to me is essentially rescuing clothing destined for the landfill and mending it so it can still be worn. My main focus for this is on natural fibers (linen, cotton, wool etc.) because they are healthier to wear, longer lasting and easier to repair than synthetic fabrics. In my time spent volunteering at a local thrift store, I have seen firsthand the sheer amount of clothing that is thrown away due to the tiniest problems. I actually got a 100% Eddie Bauer wool sweater completely free last year because it had a miniscule hole in the neck. When I got home I repaired it with two stitches; literally TWO. Any piece included in my curated rack will be exactly like this; destined for the dumpster, minorly repaired and given a new life.

What makes you different?

As it says on my business card, I have decided to be the change I want to see. That means transparency on prices and ingredient sourcing, respect for your time and money and willingness to hear any feedback you may have regarding your experience.
